Resolutions You Can Adopt On This Youm-e-Azadi

People talk about New Year’s resolution and how they are going to change themselves or their habits when the New Year starts. But a resolution can be adopted at any stage in life. Why wait for the New Year when you can start being good right at this instant—or this Independence Day, 14th August 2017. Here is a list of resolutions you can adopt on this Independence Day, to make sure that besides hoisting a flag and plonking some Jhandiyaan on our rooftops, our Independence Day does not go in vain and we might end up doing something positive.

Let’s start with the teachings of the Father of the Nation, Quaid-e-Azam, Muhammad Ali Jinnah -- Unity, Faith, Discipline.
“I have no doubt that with unity, faith and discipline we will compare with any nation of the world. You must make up your minds now. We must sink individualism and petty jealousies and make up our minds to serve the people with honesty and faithfulness”.

Indeed.
Even if one day, you become the Prime Minister of Pakistan, you will always reject corruption of any sorts.

Keep our country clean.
We have a firm belief that “Cleanliness is half the faith”. We can start following our belief and keep our country clean by not throwing empty chips wrappers or not spitting paan on the streets.

Even if the roads are empty, we will not cross a red signal and obey the traffic laws.
Avoid unnecessary honking as well, as it causes noise pollution.

Avoid Sifarish for the sake of getting a job or a promotion because it is unfair to those who come on merit.
Practical exam marks for Matriculation and F.Sc is a prime example of Sifarish I remember.

When poor people ask for money or help, always try to help them.
Instead of scolding them or trying to judge whether they are eligible for your help or not – just help, if you can.

For the not so farmabardaar aulaad, we can start respecting our parents more. Or respect the elders in general.

Elders can also treat the children with love and compassion.
If every person develops a sense for respect for the other, we can become a united nation, which is what Baba-e-Quom wanted for us.

Not exactly what Quaid wanted.

Always speak the truth.
No matter what the circumstances are.

In the end, always be grateful to Allah Almighty for whatever He has given us. If we want to achieve more, we must work hard for it rather than looking for shortcuts.
