Some Interesting Festivals Around the World

Muslims around the world are going to celebrate Eid-ul-Adha in about a month now to fulfil the ritual of sacrificing animals in the name of Almighty Allah. The act of sacrifice is only symbolic as the real reason behind the festival is to remember how Prophet Ibrahim A.S dedicated his son, Ismail A.S for the sacrifice, when Allah ordered him. With Eid-ul-Adha aka Barri Eid aka Bakra Eid just around the corner, we decided to take a trip around the world - hypothetically of course- and explore the festivals that are celebrated by other religions and countries based on their uniqueness.
HOLI
Also known as “Festival of Colors” is celebrated mostly by our most beloved neighboring country India. People play with colors and drench each other. The whole point is to party hard and get the other person as colorful as possible. You can also officially get drunk on this day by drinking their customary drink called bhang.

RAKSHA BANDHAN
Also celebrated mostly in India. It is a day to celebrate the love and relationship between brothers and sisters where the sister ties a sacred thread known as Rakhi on her brother’s wrist and pray for his well-being. It is also one of the most dangerous festival for boys as on the day girls can officially friend-zone any boy by giving them a Rakhi, and they can’t do much about it.

CASCAMORRAS
Thousands of Spaniards from the towns of Baza and Guadix cover themselves in grease, black olive oil and colored paste to reenact the stealing of a famous statue "Virgen de la Piedad," which took place more than 500 years ago. The event lasts for three days from 6th September to 9th September. And with just a few flames of fire, Human barbeque with olive oil seasoning is ready.

LA TOMATINA
Celebrated on the last Wednesday of August in Buñol, Spain. People simply throw tomatoes at each other for no real reason which makes it more exciting because not everything needs a reason. If you have watched Zindagi Na Millay Gi Dobara, then you know what we are talking about.

ALBUQUERQUE INTERNATIONAL BALLOON FESTIVAL
The Albuquerque International Balloon Festival takes place in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States at the start of October each year which lasts for about 9 days. It is the largest gathering of hot air balloons aka pakannay in the world. If you want to get rid of someone, you know what to do. Up, up and away.

RUNNING OF THE BULLS
Oh Bhains! And Holy Cow! Literally fits the description for this festival. It takes place in Pamplona, Spain from July 6 to 14. A whole lot of buffoons run in front of enraged bulls, but who are we to judge the centuries old Spanish tradition.
